We were starving driving back from Brownwood. We were nervous because we didn't see any restaurants near BUT them we saw this little place! I am so glad we stopped! It was small inside but the food was so good and home-made! The staff was sweet and welcoming!
Quaint but clean. Small but friendly. This place called to me during my travels from Austin to Abilene. Hunger overtook me around 6:00 and the smell of fried foods drew me in. The menu is diverse to have something for everyone. I landed on fried pickles and the catfish and shrimp platter. As a yankee from Minnesota I waited entirely too long in life to have never tried catfish. The prices are reasonable, the service was helpful and friendly, and I’ll dream about this catfish when I go back north and eat walleye.
Went there for breakfast. Good home, cook country, breakfast loved it. I'm from the leander austin area
Jalapeño popper burger 🍔 was amazing and hit the spot! The red onion rings are my favorite and they give you more than you can eat in one sitting. If you haven’t been here you need to add it to your list! All staff are super sweet and friendly.
If you want the fried food experience, you’re at the right place. Upon entering the restaurant it was packed. I guess on a normal occasion you seat yourself, on a busy night you have to get on a list. Which created confusion. Regulars come in and plopped down in front of those waiting. My only critique of the place is to either be a seat yourself kind of place or wait at the front. You can’t have both, with a big sign saying “seat yourself”. The menu offered a variety of options to choose from. Catfish, burgers, & salads. Each of my crew were able to order something they loved. I went with the green chili burger with an extra add for fried pickles. It was full of flavor and freshness. As well as their side of homemade fresh ranch to go along with my dish. My husband ordered fried catfish. Equally fresh and delicious, along with a side of homemade tartare sauce. Then my daughter went with her usual, a salad. This time it was a taco salad loaded with toppings & sour cream as her dressing. Her salad was also great quality. Highly recommend this diner. They just need to work on the flow of ppl coming in.
Great food, friendly servers and fast service. Want to come back. Came to celebrate parents birthdays. Love to find local places to eat. Drove from Abilene,TX for lunch.
Great breakfast for under $10. Only disappointment, no decaf coffee. Grilled biscuit and hash browns were delicious. Even found parking for our truck and trailer.
Diamond R is absolutely the stop for simple, basic food, done perfectly! Biscuits grilled with butter, so crispy and yummy; scrambled eggs made to perfection; sausage not greasy but nice kick of spice; and hash browns like they’re supposed to be…all with fresh hot coffee. Get this excited about a basic breakfast?! Really? Only when it’s done perfectly so you remember how good it can be! Attentive friendly servers, interesting locals…Worth the stop!
